Good news as OPARANYA distances himself from taxes on CHICKEN and the dead -vows not to sign the Bill into law

Monday January 27, 2014 - It is
good news for the residents of
Kakamega County after Governor
Wycliffe Oparanya vowed to
protect them from extreme
taxation measures being proposed
by his County Assembly.
Speaking on Saturday in Lugari
during the burial of ODM’s
Spokesman Phillip Etale’s mother,
Oparanya distanced himself from
the proposed tax on chicken,
which has sparked controversy
among chicken lovers and the
entire Luhya community saying he
was not privy to the contents of
the Bill.
Oparanya vowed never to assent to
the Bill once it reaches his desk,
saying he would not agree to
anything that undermines his
people and challenged his MCAs to
style up and amend the Bill.
He said he could not change the
contents of the Bill because it was
beyond him but said it won’t pass
his desk if it is bad for the people
of Kakamega.
The Bill proposes taxes on chicken
and all other domestic animals as
well as the dead.
Kakamega County is not the first
one to impose such ridiculous
taxes as other counties have also
done the same and it is time they
learnt from Governor Oparanya to
reject the Bills.
