Kombo gets support from ODM officials

A section of ODM officials in Bungoma county have supported New Ford Kenya’s Musikari Kombo for the senator seat. They include Gideon Chemuku, Fredrick Wabanda (Kanduyi), Cleophas Wayongo (Kabuchai), Benard Wachie (Tongaren), Noah Buluma (Sirisia), Martin Mayeku, Joe Khaemba (Kimilili) and Ben Jipcho (Mt Elgon). In statement read by Khaemba, they said they will remain in ODM but will campaign for Kombo.
They accused Ford Kenya’s party leader Moses Wetang’ula of failing to show clear leadership when he served as the Bungoma Senator. Wetang’ula, Kombo, journalist David Makali (independent candidate) and Wakopli Bifwoli (Labour Party) are running for Senator in the December 19 by-election. Yesterday, the officials accused Wetang’ula of doing very little to campaign for Cord in teh region during the March 4 general election.
“It is common knowledge that Wetang’ula was a very unpopular person in Bungoma before joining Cord to fight ODM from within,” Khaemba said. They were speaking at a press conference held at a Kimilili hotel. Wambanda said their decisionto support Kombo is irriversable. of Kanduyi.
“We campaigned for him but he was busy fighting us,” he said. The officials however insisted that they are not defecting from ODM but will only support Kombo in the mini polls. Kimilili chairman Martin Mayeku blamed Wetang’ula for frustrating ODM candidates in the region during the last elections by fronting Ford-Kenya candidates only.
“We campaigned for him last time but he would de-campaign against the ODM candidates in Bungoma county,” he said.. Jipcho told ODM leader Raila Odinga to “tread carefully with Wetang’ula”.
He said the former Bungoma Senator has always frustrated those who have helped him to ascend to power. “Raila should tread carefully because this man Wetang’ula has never appreciated anybody.”
